Hi.

I have :

I5 2300 2.8ghz
8gb RAM
GeForce 560TI OC

I want to improve my CPU with my existing H68 motherboard. It'll take 1155 Intel i7 CPUs so was looking at 2700k. My mono can't be overclockers so is the 2700k okay at stock speeds?

Any ideas? One day I'll add new mobo and overclock CPU.

Alex.

So basically my existing motherboard can't be overclockers. So to save me spending a fortune I thought I could use what I already have and put a new stock CPU in.

I have 550W psu

My current i5 isn't slow but things like Flight Simulator X just need that bit more. I don't want to change my current OCZ 550W PSU.

I think it's a Gigabyte b3 revision h67 board. Is that any good to you?

Actually I think it's H61. I'll confirm this when I get home on Saturday. I'm not that confident with flashing BIOS etc. the Ivybridge does make sense though. Any other help would be appreciated. Ta.

It's an MSI gtx 560 TI 1024mb with arctic cooler. I think the CPU is the bottleneck. Any other FSX users in here agree ?

I was looking at bundles on OC website but would my 550W psu be enough if I was looking at overclocking?

Any help much appreciated.

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation on the GeForce 500 series:

GeForce GTX 560 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit.

Your 550W PSU is plenty :)

Sorry I don't use FSX so can't say if its the CPU or not. However if you're going to buy a new one an i5 3570K or i7 3770K is probably best (the i7 if the program can use many threads).

I think FSX can only use four cores. I have no clue on overclocking do if I got an i5 3570k could I just fit into my existing motherboard and go?

Basically if anyone can point me in the right direction in there! I am looking at OC Uk bundles though, less the RAM. Already got decent RAM. Would OC UK sell me an overclocked bundle without the RAM so I can fit my own?

Sure 550W is enough for an overclocked system?

Cheers.

Can anyone recommend me an overclocked bundle that I can fit myself? That way I haven't got to mount CPU and heatsinks etc.

Are you sure its the CPU. I ran FSX on ultra on a i5, 8gb ram and a 280gtx. without any slow down at all, this also included the PMDG modules running plus software for vatsim. the same game ran on High settings on a intel dual core E8500 with 4gb ram and a 9800gtx

I don't know what it can be. My system was a primo built by overclockers last year. I want to get a faster CPU any future proof it anyway. The PMDG NGX only achieves about 15fps at the moment at Uk2000 EGKK.

Ah the NGX is a nice one too fly although if you ever get the chance buy the concorde (not from PMDG) was an actual expansion. sorry i cant be more help by the looks of the things your computer should be more than enough to run fsx at ultra without any slowdown
