Upgrade my GTX980

I currently have a GTX980 on an i7 4690k 16gb ram. Asus Z97-A mobo. g-sync Acer XB270HU

I've also just purchased a new Oculus VR headset & touch.

While i don't think i need to really upgrade yet, my 12yr old son, who's really into computing and tech in general, its his birthday at the end of March... He'd like to have his i7 2600k rig powerful enough to use the Oculus, so i was thinking about giving him my guts and perhaps doing an upgrade to what i already have, WITHOUT going too crazy.

Which GPU's are worth looking at, remembering i need to stick with nVidia as i have a G-SYNC monitor which i absolutely love !
