Upgrade my PC for 1080p Streaming or buy a new PC?

Hi All,

I built my PC nearly 4 years ago now so it's pretty dated at this point.

I'm trying to work out if it's going to be better to buy a new PC or upgrade what I currently have.

I'm mainly looking to stream 1080p from console with no issues and strain and also game to a decent standard on PC.

I don't have a massive budget which is my issue, less than £900 really.

This was my PC when I built it all that time ago and nothing has changed.

Yeah I know I should have kept it up-to-date I just never had the spare funds.

I would overclock your cpu to around the 4.5ghz range if possible. Upgrade your ram to 16GB and get either the 1080 at around £500 or splash out and meet your £900 budget by getting a 1080ti.


Alternatively you could get :

Is there much difference between the 1080 and the 1080ti? Sorry likely a stupid question

A 1080 would be too much GPU at 1080p I feel, although the prices being so close to a 1070 makes it a very tempting option. I'd suggest sticking with the CPU you have to be honest, the 3570K is still a good gaming chip, especially with even a mild overclock. 16gb of RAM would help too. I can't see you getting much value from a full CPU/motherboard/RAM upgrade.

I would upgrade what you have.
its still a strong CPU.
unless your planning on going 4k I would save cash and just go for a 1080 which would still do 4k but will dominate any game at 1080p
even a 1070 would be more than enough for 1080p being honest..
next I would drop in some new RAM go for a 16gb kit
a new SSD for a system drive as im sure you'll get a more modern faster SSD now.
