upgrade needed

Well, its time for an upgrade.

I don't need much as I already have most of it, so I just need a cpu and motherboard (I might add some more ram later).

I don't do any gaming but do a lot of video editing and encoding in HD.

budget wise, I don't want to go crazy and like a bargain but I also want something that is going to perform. So, under £600 and I will be a happy man :D

I was looking at the i7 2700k but then saw the i7 3820 and like the idea of having 8 ram dimms.

Any help will be much appreciated.
 
I have a vertex 3 240GB to use and yes, all my drives are sata. I also have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit to put on it, so the amount of ram wont be a problem.

Whats the difference between the i7 2700k and the i7 3820?
 
OK, so they are both very similar really. I take it the i7 3820 would be better for me as the boards can handle more ram. What about over clocking? Is it just as good as the i7 2600k?
 
OK, so the i7 3820 is the way to go for me then.

The cpu and motherboard that you picked stulid are the same ones that I already had in my basket lol.

Is there anything else that could help improve encoding times?
