Hi - once again asking for help and advice from the good people of the OCUK forums....

My current PC:
Gigabyte Z97X
i5 4690K
8 Gb DDR3 RAM
Vega 56
Soundblaster G6
Seasonic Prime Ultra Gold 750W PSU

In a world where I would like to be able to play Starfield at 60Hz 1440p - what would be a reasonable upgrade - keeping the PSU / Soundcard but changing everything else.

Thanks in advance,

TC

Budget?

May as well go AM5. 7600X, 32Gb DDR5, 6700XT, 2Tb Gen 4 NVME and you'll be sorted.

Wow - thanks for such a quick response :) So, ~£1,000 all up with a free copy of Starfield to boot. I will admit it's a bit more than I was expecting to pay - but then again you can see from the age of my existing PC how out of date my experience is! And at the end of the day - I want to make this a significant upgrade and that of course comes at a price.
A couple more questions if I may:
1. Will the PSU be okay for that build?
2. Ballpark (real arm-wavy stuff as I know there's no way to really compare these things) - how much faster would this build be over my existing PC
3. Would this build be capable of gaming at > 60Hz on 1440p?

Thanks again ;)

Your Vega is pretty much spot-on the minimum requirement, so I'd hold off a bit longer until we get some performance reviews. Since Bethesda games tend to be CPU-oriented, you may even get away with only a CPU upgrade.

Hmmmm .... wise words - only got a couple of weeks to wait I guess - still, an upgrade is always nice too...:)

You can go cheaper by going AM4, but the price difference isn't a huge amount and you're then limited by a unsupported Socket and memory type for the future:

Agreed - I don't really want to paint myself into a corner and have do to a full changeout at some point in the future - incremental changes moving forward seems much more sensible.

Out of interest - is there any value in the old components? If not - I might just buy a PSU and repurpose the old PC for Mrs Clanger... If so - I'd need a new case - would something like be quiet! Pure Base 500 Midi Tower Case - Black be appropriate?

Not really anything of value in the old one, it'll do Fornite or Roblox or Minecraft if you have a niece or nephew or family friend with an 8-10 year old is my usual suggestion.

To be fair - it's not too bad on older or less demanding games - The Division 2 runs well on it as does No Mans Sky and Elite.

In it's new incarnation it would be simply be web browsing/email/office applications.

Just to check again - would the 'be quiet! Pure Base 500 Midi Tower Case' be okay with the new motherboard/GPU?

Yeah will be fine, the 6700XT isn't a big card
