Upgrade now or wait?

I'm sure everyone has seen a million threads now about whether to upgrade or wait for the new 1080 over 980ti, however, my issue is slightly different.

I have a budget PC being used for gaming at the minute and it has a 960 in it. Now this is fine for older games and playing at the lowest quality on newer games, but it does tend to get very warm and struggle after an extended period of gaming.

So my question is, when and what is the right option in terms of upgrades? I don't have a huge amount to spend so sadly can't be looking at top end cards but I can stretch the budget if it is going to be value for money.

AMD rumored to launch polaris at computex june 1st, and they will have 4 cards ranging from £100 to 300£, so it will probably have something interesting for you...another week to wait.

I have to upgrade as I struggle in low (7790 here) I will probably get the 1070 but ill still wait for Polaris so see how they compare next month.

If I was in your position however where I can still run games smoothly at low (something i can't) I would wait till Vega which is rumoured to have been brought forward to October and see how they compare to the 1070/80 which will fall in price if they're good or will probably undercut Nvidia anyway.

Like you I wouldn't be buying the top range card hence the 1070 being my most likely card, but the Vega 490 could still be affordable and very powerful.

Mid - End of June once we know about Polaris and the 1070/1080 custom boards are out for non-lol Founders edition prices.

If Polaris 10 is equivalent of Fury (non-X) and under £300 then that would be a sweet card to put in your machine. Not sure when 1060/1050 is due on the green side. :)

Thanks for all the feedback. The general consensus does appear to be waiting at least another month. I think that might be the best course of action rather than overspend on something now and regret it later on.

The Bitfenix Neos case. All 3 fans are in and on 100% currently. The CPU cooler could do with an upgrade from stock though.

After checking on the state of the fans on the GPU I can confirm that it is always worth ensuring the fans are actually coming on. After setting the fans to a reasonable percentage the stuttering that occurred after a short time has gone. Thanks for the heads up!
