been a bit dissapointed in my 6850 CF lately(perfomance/temps) and i'm also upgrading to a 24" 120hz 3d monitor for christmas. So i was thinking as i'd be low on VRAM on bf3 etc what would the best upgrade path be? preferably NVIDIA as i could use the 3 but am willing to lose the 3d and go AMD.

Suggestions?

I can't decide between the 2 myself. There is no clear winner.

Also how much do you plan on selling your 6850s for? I've been trying to sell them for a few days now...

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI HD 7870 Twin Frozr III OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ FARCRY3 & Sleeping Dogs PC Games £199.99
1 x Asus HD 7870 DirectCU II V2 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ FARCRY3 & Sleeping Dogs PC Games £199.99
Total : £411.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).

I'm not sure actually, ill have to go check out how much theyre worth i guess! and them cards look pretty good, does anyone know the equivalent nvidia to 6850 cf?

Would this be better perfomance then? :) especially at 1080p? I'm willing to lose the 3d (doubt i'd use it much anyways)
Yeah that's fine. Both the MSI cards are the same apart from the cooling. The Frozr wins it but not by a lot.

Also you might be able to clock it a bit more. Correct me if I'm wrong.

About even before overclocking, but once the 7870 is pushed further it will leave the 6850's quite a way behind. It'll be much smoother too.

Actually, after selling your 6850's, you might be able to step up to a 7950? You could sell the game codes to make things a bit easier. If not, the 7870 I linked would still be a good purchase.

The film I linked btw is very funny. ;)

It's hard to sell the 6850s for even £60 on ebay atm :(

Not surprising really when deals pop up like the recent ones on 460/70/80's. I'd still try and sell them though as i'm not sure how well a 7870 will hold up on a 120hz monitor over the next couple of years, a 7950 would be a safer bet and a bigger upgrade.

Get a 120Hz 'native 3D' monitor-(I'm using a Samsung SA700) and you don't have to lose anything, and AMD 3D/Tridef is actually a lot better than you think.

Tridef can be used on both Nvidia/AMD, so you are not tied to any vendor for 3D.:)

Just had a think and is it REALLY worthit spending so much on a 120hz screen when i can save nearly 100 and get a normal monitor with a 2msn response? which will also save me money to get a better gpu?

EDIT: Decided to put off buying a monitor for a while and getting a better gpu instead, so £230 to spend on a new card! give me suggestions! :D

If 200 is your budget which mine was, then try and find 60 extra quid somewhere, iv just got a saphire 7950 vapour-x, coming from a 4970x2 (it ran every game i wanted, mainly on high i thought it was the dogs nutts, best card iv had so i thought), this card absolutely blows it outta the water and runs everything on ultra and iv got everything overclocked everything maximum in ati CCC, and it idles 28-30c and load 50-60c 100% silent, i couldn't of asked for a better card, this is the best card iv ever bought, best investment ever. will defo last me as long as my 4870x2 which i used for 4 years 2 months, if not last longer than that. :)

yeh 120hz screens are nice i love my samsung sa700.

Would never go back to a 60hz. TBH there probably isn't much point upgrading a 6850 CF setup if not getting a 120hz monitor.

I should think that 6850's in CF would get more than 60fps in most games out there.
