hi i am trying to upgrade my current PC on a shoe string budget, the work i carry out is mainly cad work and 3d modeling in Relux for lighting.

my current PC is:

AMD FX 6300 on stock cooling,
8GB ddr 3 1300mhz
128GB ssd
2GB Nvidia GTX 760

is running a bit slow on cad and in relux,
i wondering what is the best way forward in upgrading bearing in mind i need a stable machine.

do i upgrade my cooling and overclock, upgrade to the FX9590 with water cooling, or upgrade ram. of is it worth changing to Intel my budget it around £2-300

please could you guys help point me in the right direction.

many thanks in advance

Step 1 is upgrade the stock cooling and see if you can get a decent overclock 4.5GHz or so.

Step 2 would be obtain a faster CPU. 83xx series if you can get a decent overclock on your current system, 9xxx series are not significantly faster.
Otherwise, your budget may stretch to a new base level i5 CPU and motherboard or a K series i5 or i7 second hand.

would i notice a decent step up in performance moving to an i5 or i7

Yes, even with less cores and threads something like the i5-6500 will outperform the FX-6300 by some margin. You can pick up an i5-6500 (including cooler) + H110 motherboard + 8GB DDR4 for just under £300 so should be within your budget. An i7 would be even better but you'd be looking at second hand to keep within your budget.

ReluxPro tries to detect
potential
graphics card incompatibilities
by switching to Mesa mode.
Mesa mode processes 2D and 3D Visualisation as
software emulation, which means hardware
acceleration of the graphics card cannot be used. The advantage of this mode is its reliability.
The downside is slower execution of Relu
x
Pro.
This mode can be activated manually in Relu
x-
Pro via

are you using gpu hw acceleration?
and most of relux is 32bit and can only use 2gb mem

what cad program are you using?
what ver of windows 32 or 64bit?

Ive checked it was using windows drive not mesa, if iwant to overclock my pc what is the best way to go about it could you advise on some settings that would be stable on standard cooling, also im not sure how to set the ram up with regards to timings?
