Hi, After spending too much time pondering I'm hoping someone can give me a second opinion.

My PC - 6300 at 7 x 400 (2800), 2GB Crucial 6400, 7900GTO clocked, 20 inch 1680 x 1050

My lad (13) - Opty 146 at 280 x 10 (2800), 1 GB DDR400, 6800GT clocked, 17 inch 1280 x 1024

I have bought second hand a DS3 and 6400 (which was a known clocker) but have not got round to it for a few weeks and now cannot decide on graphics.

I like FPS and my son likes Oblivion, W o W. I am playing Bioshock fiddled for running on XP and can't wait for Crysis so I guess the logical thing is to buy myself a DX10 card which will handle my 16x10 resolution and move the lad onto my C2D platform with the 7900GTO which is more than enough at 12x10? Then sell the Opty etc for peanuts on an auction site.

If so - what is the best value card for me ? I don't want the best and definitely sub £200. It has to beat the 7900GTO of course.

Another option is just to buy the best value card that will beat his 6800GT and just upgrade him to the C2D platform. My 7900GTO is still a good card and I'm wondering if that makes more sense for now? Maybe a X1950Pro?

Advice appreciated.

If you want a card for 1680x1050 then either the 8800GTS or the X2900pro make a lot of sense, probably the X2900pro would be best for the 512mb Ram and that you can normally clock it to X2900XT speeds.

Thanks - I need to mug up on my DX10 cards. 2900 Pro versus 8800 GT?
I'm still thinking about a two stage approach though - i.e. buy the best value upgrade to a 6800GT for my lad's 1280x1024 PC and wait until the games are really mainstream before upgrading my 7900GTO. Any comment on the card to beat the 6800GT for the best price? X1950 Pro?
