any suggestions?

being as its over a period of time have you considered checking the sandy processors due out early next year from intel ?

Hi there,

May I ask what PSU you are currently running?

I would suggest upgrading the GPU first (and PSU if required), then upgrade the CPU/mobo/RAM in the new year, since brand new tech chips are coming out including Intel Sandy Bridge (January 9th) and AMD Bulldozer (april last I heard).

Upgrading PC over time has never been a good idea with new technology comming out over time and older stuff being hard to get hold off.

What I'd recomend you do is save the money up and then buy it all at once. You save on shipping fees, have the latest technology and save money. The PC will also last a lot longer.

Do you know the model number of your ASUS 400W PSU?

As for the prices of the new CPUs, the Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs that are coming out on January 9th will be replacing the current s1156 i3,i5 and i7 CPU and will be priced at the same levels. This is worth a read if you are considering Sandy Bridge.

For Bulldozer, i'm not sure about the pricing.

would that still run under a 520w power supply?
and can it handle games such as Call od duty Modern Warfare 2, Battlefields Bad Company 2 on hgih settings?

You really should be listening to this guy, upgrading your PC should be done all at once.

i should also use google more oftrn, will work on that one

thanks for all the advice!

what would you say would be the best GPU under £150 if i am spending £50 on a PSU that will be in budget of £200 for them both

If you want to get some good deals in that price range - you may want to wait until next Wednesday (15th) as the next generation top-end ATI cards come out then and will hopefully drive down the prices of cards in your budget.

If you want to buy right now I would go for the Antec 520W PSU you picked (£60) and this GPU (£150) for a total of £210. If you want to keep it under £200 - then this ASUS card and the same PSU would be ideal.

wow! so dual/quad use similar to a SIX CORE! never knew that. should be fine then.
will start upgradeing hopefully after christmas
thanks for all the help!
