Hello all,

I currently have the following spec:

E5200
5450 1Gb Graphics
4GB PC6400 Ram
Western Digital AAKS 500Gb Boot Drive

I was thinking to upgrade to an i5 2500K with 8Gb ram but was wondering if it would be better to spend the money elsewhere?

I use my PC mainly to watch movies in HD on my TV and I have a budget of around £300. I don't mind buying second hand parts from the MM.

Thanks for any help :)

If you don't game, the 5450 should do. As a matter of fact, probably might as well use the Sandybridge IGP for video and general stuff.

Then again, if you don't game or do anything extensive, a i3-2100 / i3-2120 will do the job. couple with a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3, and you'll have an upgrade path possible, as well as a decent motherboard. 4GB enough as well if you are not doing anything serious with the PC (even 8GB is a bit OTT atm for gaming).

Thanks for the reply :)

It's partly due to random playback issues such as going out of sync and when paused and resuming it can be jumpy, so I have to restart what im watching. I've tried updating software but it didn't help.

It's also because I haven't upgraded for a long time and I have the money and this upgrade will last me a while.

i think an i5 will be a bit overkill for just simply watching movies. an i3 would be a better option your current gpu should be fine to.
