Currently have a i5-2500K 3.3Ghz, 16Gb ram, Crucial m4 ssd, Sapphire 6870 1Gb on a Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 rev 1.0 and an old corsair PSU to round it off.

Now I was going to wait till Broadwell came out but looking around that is going to be Q4 2014 or Q1 2015 according to the internet.

Now my options are replace the stock intel hsf with an after market one, oc my CPU and get something like a AMD 290 and a new PSU.

Or go for a Haswell i7 setup with new board, ram etc obviously more expensive, but would give me PCIe 3 which my current board I do not believe supports.

Cheers for the info, I will keep an eye out on the MM for a 2600K or 2700K and will look at the PSU.

Cheers

Fair enough had a look on Anandtechs CPU bench and there isn't much in it from a 2700K to a 3770K in performance

Well that was quick found a cheap 3770K on another site.

Is the intel HSF upto any over clocking or is there better about?

Ok so I was woefully wrong about the clearance in my case for HSF. I have about 110mm at the most from the chip to the base of the power supply.

So those coolers that fowler mentioned are not going to fit.

So after suggestions for lower profile coolers or Something like a H60, H75, H90 etc

At the rear I have a 120mm fan opening and at the top of the case a 140mm case which would fit the H90

So more options please

Thanks

Kimbie
