Upgrade or clean install

Im just wondering but with xp installed i will be putting vista on, again, sometime in the future, so i was wondering if i should use the upgrade option or just do a clean install, if i upgrade will there be any disadvantages/advantages ?

i have no idea why microsoft allow upgrade installs. it's horrible and messy. with something as major as installing a new OS, it should be a clean install everytime.

I think an upgrade takes a lot longer than a clean install. I would always go for the clean install myself.
