Hey guys, as you can see from my signature I've currently got the following:

i5-750 @ 2.7GHZ which has been overclocked to 3.0GHz
Intel DP55WB Motherboard

Nothing too extravogent, but it's not a bad set-up either, I've currently got a little bit of spare money and what not and was thinking that I could upgrade to the following:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £179.99
1 x Asus P8Z77-V LX Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £84.98
Total : £276.37 (includes shipping : £9.50).

But as I'm reviewing things and what not, I'm thinking that I wouldnt't even see that much of an improvement over these changes would I? and even if I did, wouldn't they be really minor and insignificant?

Just asking for a little bit of help and guidance really, so that I don't go out and spend £300 on parts that wont really help me out.

Regards

What you've got is still a really good set up. You could save yourself some cash and just buy the 3570k, there shouldn't be any need for a new motherboard as both are on the same socket. I think you'd see a decent performance increase given that you're running your i5 750 @ 3ghz.

However, personally I would open a separate e-savings account or similar with your bank, put that £300 into it and keep it set aside for when Haswell comes out as it will be on a new socket.

They're your two options, save money and just get the 3570k or wait until Haswell and get motherboard and i5. I would wait :)

I've got the same CPU in my main rig, and don't feel it's holding me back yet. You should be able to get a higher overclock out of it if you've got a decent cooler. Mine's been running at 4.1GHz completely stable for about two years now.

leave it for now and see what comes out this year, as spend now when you dont need it it and you may kick yourself if something better comes out so soon

If you do decide to upgrade the retail version is the same price.

But can you try and get a little more out of the cpu or is the Intel motherboard holding you back.

Thanks for the kind replies guys, much appreciated. I don't think anything is holding me back as of yet, I could try overclocking the CPU a bit more, I don't mind doing that, I wouldn't know what voltages to increase and to what amount to get a decent speed out of it tbh, I know how to overclock, but it's just a matter of what speed should I go too and stay at etc?

As for the board, the board is a generic cheap board that I got with the PC upon initial purchase and have been upgrading parts over the years to make it as good as it is today and what not.

At this moment in time, I'm thinking about not buying the parts and maybe holding onto the case and buying something better down the road, I might just opt for a new monitor instead, as my current one is pretty abysmal.

IMO you should wait till haswell, even if it isnt the best, it will be the latest. OR when haswell comes out, you can buy ivybridge/ sandybridge cheaply :)
