I bought the rig below with this communities help in 2010 and I am not looking at if I could upgrade it or better to wait on the new consoles and GPU's and start from scratch.

Budget is tight but I am a sucker for value for money so any recommendation to future proof for a little extra will be very welcome.

Computer is used mainly for games mmo's and will want to play BF4 when it is out. I plan on getting a 1440 monitor this side of xmas so would like to be able to get a good level of quality at that resolution.

So upgrade? If so in what order and to what?
If not buy a new rig or wait for new GPU's \ consoles?

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66GHz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9)
Corsair HX 750W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750HXUK)
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5850 "Dirt2 Edition" 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Happy with hdd/kb/mouse/monitor etc. the concerns are above ;)

Thanks again for helping me out.

Thanks. What card would you recommend? am I ok for CPU and GPU upgrades on the mobo I have?

I do have an ssd.

Thanks keep it coming :)

cool, i was reading that some people think for 1440 i should be looking at 3G vRAM? Totally just picking up on other threads I know little about this. Is the general feel that the other bits in my current rig are fine and will last be a bit longer then? CPU/mobo/RAM?

Thanks again guys really helpful.

Sorry still looking for some advise on if the mobo will last a few more years? Would it be able to take a new CPU and the 99xx cards when they come out for example?

Thanks I think GPU has to be my first buy tho

Unfortunately LGA1366 is a dead socket and has been for some time. It will not take any modern Intel CPUs :( You are stuck with first generation Core i7.

ah ok. So really new GPU and a bundle (RAM/mobo/CPU) .

So mayeb could someone spec me the above around £600-800 please. details of what I plan to do with it are in the OP.

Thanks
