Hello all,

I am the owner of the following system:

i7 920
Gigabyte X58-UD5
3 x 2 OCZ 1333mhz DDR3
ATI 5850
4 x 1TB Samsung F3

Since the system is getting slow and noisy and i also like upgrading my computer from time to time, i was wondering if it was smart to upgrade the system minimally or go for a larger and more expensive upgrade.

This is what i have in mind for a small upgrade:

Fractal Design R4 (at this moment i have a LanCool Dragonlord K58 but im not completely satisfied with the exterior anymore aswell as the dust attraction.
Crucial m4 256GB (for that extra bit of power)
New CPU Cooler (Scythe Mugen is bending my motherboard so time for a change)
Some new casefans(Maybe some that are a bit more quiet than my Scythe S-Flex 1600 120mm and Sharkoon 140mm)

The thing i was wondering about; is it worth investing in the hardware i have? I mean buying an SSD that uses SATA3 etc.

If i was going for an entire new system, i can keep my power supply which is a Corsair HX750, my graphics cards is also pretty decent for all new games.

What would you recommend? My budget is around 800-900 euros.

Thanks in advance

Thats the thing, not a ridiculous amount. Obviously it's newer and you can get a decent Overclock on it, but all in all your 920 is still a great chip.

If you are having no problems with it i would suggest keeping it. But your budget you can upgrade and sell on old parts.

I really would'nt upgrade the whole system. Your 920 is a cracking cpu and is still capable of competing with the newer cpu's. Wait for Haswell and it's new socket next year. Is your 920 overclocked? Most could hit 3.8-4Ghz with a decent cooler. Just treat yourself to a new case, cooler and ssd. You would also get a decent boost by upgrading the graphics card.
