Hey been a while since i used this forum, but over a year ago i made the idiot mistake of purchasing a bundle from Maplins. At the time it was cheap and what I could afford but now down the line it needs serious work to make it better.

Is it better to start over witha new build or upgrade this?
If new build what would people recommend?

Hi,

What is your budget.

What do you use it for?

What case+PSU do you have?

How much RAM do you have in total?

Hi,

Budget is flexible as I will buy as and when I can afford the parts but lets say £600

Oh and I use it for gaming but what to get into modding/youtube videos etc
Case is a standard PC case. Not sure on power but 450/500 needless to say if I did a new build id buy a new PSU as this is old.

I've always had 8GB ram but installed a 4GB stick on top. Should be 12GB but only shows 10GB. (Probably slowing me down but it doesnt seem to)

So lets say your case supports standard ATX?

Keep your RAM/HDD.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-SLI - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£12 Saving** £263.98
1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 960 Reference 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - OEM £143.99
1 x Crucial BX100 250GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive (CT250BX100SSD1) £68.99
1 x SuperFlower FX 450W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply - Black £36.95
1 x Raijintek Aidos Direct Contact CPU Cooler £14.99
Total : £538.49 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

Check the length of the gfx card against the inside of your case.

The coolers not very tall so I hope will fit.

You can buy a bigger HDD if you want or a bigger SSD or even a stronger GFX card.

Thanks!

I had been looking at the GTX970 is that better?

Strangely enough that was the motherboard/processor I was looking at so least I was thinking along the right lines.

If I did it this way id need RAM. What would you recommend?

My plan is to build a PC that will last and want it to be as powerful as can be fitting my bill.

I would suggest the Teamgroup Vulcun 2400Mhz kits (8 or 16GB) but you can reuse your 8GB kit for awhile.

The GTX970 is much faster. You will want a 550W+ PSU for that.

Sorry to bump this back to the top but as recent I thought best than starting a new topic on the same subject.

I am about to purchase this but had one last question about Intel/AMD chips.

I've never had intel before always used AMD. The chip listed about is 4cores and more pricey intel chips are 6cores. I know AMD is cheaper but they offer chips with more cores what not so my real question is. Does it make a noticeable difference using intel/AMD?

Will having a 4core intel be better than say a 6/8 core AMD?

Intel cpu's have much stronger cores than AMD. An i5 4690K is a far better option than an FX-8350 or any of the FX cpu's.

You don't need water cooling with an i5. The Raijintek cooler that Stulid posted above would be fine if you don't want to spend too much.
