Upgrade or new build

Hey all,

I've recently talked myself into upgrading my computer or going for a new build. It still requires a little saving but shouldn't take me too long to there there.

What do I do?

I usually game on console but recently picked up PUBG on PC and am loving it and would generally like to play more on PC and perhaps stream at some point.

I actually stream and edit videos as well already but they're not gaming, more just me speaking into a mic with a few pictures thrown in about football so not too taxing, but if I could render quicker then that would be great.

Built my current PC back in May 2012 and tried to go for mostly top range-ish stuff so it lasted and it has well. Here's my current build (couldn't get it to link the pics direct)

I usually like going full new computer but given costs I'm wondering if it's viable to simply upgrade?

Right now when I play PUBG on low my GPU goes to near 100% usage so I'm guessing that needs an upgrade. Could I just buy a 1080 without issues or will other parts of my hardware hold me back?

Cheers

Your CPU will hold you back somewhat with a higher end GPU. If you had the 3770K and maxed out the overclock on air/AIO then you'd probably be ok or close to it but with what you have it would bottleneck a 1080 for sure. You can go ahead and do it if you want, but you won't get the same perf as if you had, say, an 8700K. You can always upgrade the rest of the machine later.

Please keep in mind that GPU prices are completely ridiculous right now because of frickin coin miners buying all the cards. Demand is way up and prices are way up. I can sell my 1080 for more than I paid 14 months ago, which is absurd.

If you want a card that would be more in line with the power of the rest of your system consider an RX580 or GTX1060 but again, prices are a joke ATM and a total rip off.

If I were you I'd wait until GPU and RAM prices stop being stupidly high then build a whole new computer. Sell what you have afterwards to make up some of the lost cash.

Until you upgrade consider running Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering on low or off, don't use motion blur, and don't use ultra settings. This helps. Playing at lower resolutions also helps.

Thanks!

Perhaps I just go for the 1060 now to be able to game at better FPS.

My 680 does an okay job on PUBG, runs at around 95% usage and 84 degrees, is that okay long term?

Been putting off a complete new build but at the same time it's always exciting getting new tech so may go for it long term.
