Just wanted some input as I'm about to upgrade my current rig:

CPU - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX-53 Processor, Speed : 2.41GHz
CPU Fan - Zalman 'Flower' Heatsink and Fan
PSU - Jeantech Orchid 500 Watts (120mm Fan)
Motherboard - ASUSTeK Computer INC. A8N32-SLI-Deluxe
Graphics Cards - 2 x NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX in SLI-Mode)
Storage - Hard Disk 1 (149GB), Hard Disk 2 (34GB)
CD-ROM - DVD_RW ND-3500AG (CD 48X Rd, 48X Wr) (DVD 6X Rd, 6X Wr)
Audio - Creative SB Audigy 2
Memory - 2GB DDR-SDRAM Modules Corsair 1GB x 2, Speed : PC3200U
Case - Thermaltake Tsumani Dream, USB x 4, Firewire, PS2 x 2, OnBoard Sound jacks

The problem I'm struggling with is can I make a significant upgrade with my current rig, or should I just flog it and go for a whole new system, the monitor is taken care of so thats not an issue (22" V7), so I would be looking at about £700 if I went the new PC route.

The main usage is gaming, mainly Warcraft, which is why I want to dump the SLI as it's just not delivering smooth/fast gameplay.

Any thoughts would be grand.

PS should have said that a quiet PC is also on my list of 'needs', so am happy to pay a bit more for quieter components

I'd go for a full refresh if I were you.

A dual core CPU helps and the hard to come by s939's top out at 2.6Ghz and fetch excessive prices. In todays market you'll get good prices for your mainboard and memory so it's worth jumping to core 2.

I'd also suggest a modern 500GB HDD to improve transfer rates, hard drives have come a long way... and a 8800GTS 512MB / 3700 XT

Yeah I'm happy to go that route. I wont ask for a spec just yet I'm going to do a little reading up, might need some help later ;)

I am a little unsure about the graphics card. I wanted to dump the 2 x card setup and plumb for a 1 card system. What is the current state of play with graphics cards, SLI (PCI-Express) still faster than single cards?. I just noticed there were a lot of cards released towards the end of 2007.

A little out of touch :s

Yeah I'd go for a full upgrade. I'd highly recommend the Antec p182 case as a start for a quiet PC (and their excellent support, should anything go wrong).
