Currently I have the following

Intel Core i5 2500K
XFX 750W Black Edition Modular Power Supply
Dell Ultrasharp U2311H 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey
Coolermaster CM-690 II Advanced Dominator Case - Black
MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5
Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 240GB
Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz

The current items that were not part of the last upgrade (basically just the 970 and the H100i) are approaching 5 years of age so I have convinced the wife its time for some upgrades/new pc.

So, what to do?

I have a budget of around 2k to spend. I will need a new monitor and am looking at getting something with some longevity that will last through the next upgrade in the future as my current monitor has lived with the upgrade to the 970 about 12 months ago. Not really sure is skylake is the upgrade I am looking for but feel free to spec away for me if you can :) I will have a look at some of the suggestions and see if its worth waiting it out for the nextgen or taking the plunge now. Thanks!

Hi

Your system is still very good, so upgrading to Skylake or Haswell-E if you are just gaming isn't really the best way to spend your money.

I would wait and see what the next gpu's bring to the table, and then go for a new gpu.

What Monitor are you looking at ?

I have posted about the monitor in the monitors thread but if I am honest I have no clue what to get. I think at least a step up in resolution would be good.

Something like Acer Predator XB270H or would it be worth it to go for a 4k screen? something like Samsung U28D590D Acer XB280HK as suggested by others, cheaper but are they better?

My current setup has lasted me 5 years almost and I am keen for the new system to do the same when I decide what I am going to get so I suppose making the investment into 4k now wouldnt be a bad idea?

yeah I suppose that would go nice with the 23inch I already have in portrait mode next to it. I am also leaning towards 4k being a bit out of my budget for now.
