Slap in second hand i7 , or if new go i7 8700k

Lots of thought about coffeelake being the new I 2*** series in meaning people will hold onto it for a long time .

Least you know you can grab the GPU and case now . See how your frames are and visually might fall in love with the current hardware in new skin .

Since you've got one of the most powerful Air coolers that can compete directly with AIOs ... Thought about going custom or trying EK new budget aluminium set up ?

*** Sorry just saw end bit of you've got the GPU :)

considering the price difference and the fact you have to buy the 1070 anyway.. maybe get that and see if you are happy with performance...?

I went from i7 3770 290x to 1070 = big obvious performance upgrade

i7 3770 to i7 6700k was probably faster but nothing like the gfx upgrade

normal SSD to M.2 was also not really noticeable for me...

maybe pick up a second hand i7 3770 for next to nothing as well... (maybe £50 by the time you have sold your old one)

unless you have loads of cash then get all new!

So Coffee lake is not good?
Should i stick to old Kaby Lake?Is it not better to have a new z370 maybe in futer, there will be more CPU's that will use that mobos?
Well i got 1600 pounds for whole rig.Wanted to build a RGB pc that will match my room as well :)
Good that i bought graphic card before end of december, because prices are going up right now, and this same graphic card cost around 80 pounds more!
What about case? I love my old case CM Storm due to low temperatures and cooling but NZXT H700i will probably a bit hoter but looks much better :)

coffee lake is nice... but honestly, there's so much Kaby Lake and Z270 stuff floating around on sale currently because of Intel's early release of 370, that you could probably pick up a decent 270 motherboard and Kaby i5 or i7 for a killing

unless you're specifically looking at futureproofing your system for down the road, Kaby Lake still stands up pretty strong for most everything nowdays

would personally push coffeelake , kabylake is pretty much your current i5 with die shrink and increased speeds. least coffee has the 2 extra cores - even if its a bit of a shoe horn thrown together by intel

As you have a respectable clock on the 2500K (epic CPU) i would install the GTX 1070 and give it a whirl in your current setup - if you haven't done so already (may need to flash your BIOS to get it working) - you should be pleasantly surprised.

This will give you a couple of months breathing space to wait for Zen 2/+ release and for the whole Meltdown/Spectre debacle to unravel itself fully. Prices of INTEL may come down even more - or your head may get turned to AMD...

For reference, i have a 2500K @ 4.5GHz coupled with a GTX 1070; gaming at 1440p. The 1070 was originally bought in preperation of a Ryzen 1700 build but i was so impressed with performance i decided to delay for a few months. I'm now waiting for the new Ryzen releases a year later which shows you how impressed i've been with the performance of the 1070 paired with the clocked 2500K - despite the bottleneck (which isn't apparent to me as i have noting to compare it too).

It plays most games on ULTRA/HIGH settings at 1440p - so you should see massive improvement at 1080p - even with ARMA 3 which is CPU orientated.
