Upgrade or new rig??

Hi,

I really want to get the Predator X34A so I know i at least need to upgrade the 5970 and want to get back in the game with a GTX 1080

Will the rest of the system hold up? I would like to get back into playing the latest games.

Should I consider replacing the entire rig? Or is that overkill at the moment?

I currently have the following setup:

Gigabyte EX58-UD5
Core i7 920
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870
6GB Corsair XMS3 PC3-12800C9 1600Mhz
Corsair TX 850W
Antec 900
LG W2452TX 24"

Start with a GFX card, then if you still got the itch get a new CPU/board+RAM.

Upgrading your cpu is a tough question because you will be running at 3440x1440 but then again the 1080 is a fast card
pushing high refresh rates you will likely benefit from a newer cpu (in dx11 at least) but it is worth seeing if you are happy with the performance of your 920 paired with the 1080, I would definitely overclock it though.
If you aren't worried about doing it in bits at a time, then I would have to agree with stulid. You would have to spend a lot more to perhaps see little gain
