I'm scratching my annual itch to get a new pc, and I'm trying to work out if I can upgrade what I have or if I need to start again.

Here's the current setup - not really impressed with graphical performance I'm getting from games now.

Antec GX500 Midi-Tower
SuperFlower FX 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
MY-132-CR Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Intel Core i5-4590 3.30GHz (Haswell)
Asus H81M-PLUS Intel H81 (Socket 1150)
Asus Radeon R9 380 DirectCU II Strix OC 4096MB GDDR5

I play a lot of racing sims and some FPS, so I'd like to be able to play on ultra if possible - 1080 not 4k.

Do I need a whole new setup, or can I make this one work?

Can stretch to around £800, budget wise.

Hi

I would say look at upgrading pretty much your whole system to be honest even your midi tower.

something like this maybe.. it even come with a free SSD which you could use to install windows too and then just use your current HDD for your games ect.

Add in a GPU of your choice good enough for 1080p

You psu should be good enough as Superflower is a decent brand.

TBH with a new graphics card and an extra 8GB of RAM you'll be able to play 1080p at massively improved FPS. However things like minimum FPS and longevity then start to cause concern. If you have £800 then I'd be looking at a whole new setup as peahead above suggests.

Thanks for the responses! :)

Looking at full systems then - is £800 going to get a system with much longevity, or would I be better off adding to that budget? Trying to work out if I go for it now, or save an extra chunk and spend £1000-1200 for a whole setup which might last me longer.

You could always get the graphics card now for a bit of a boost and plan to upgrade to a new MB/CPU with DDR4 system down the road. That's personally how I'd do it, and enjoy two unboxing days :)

Line Ryzen setup peahead linked, with the 16GB RAM option and one of the graphics cards he linked will do you great service at 1080 for 2-3 years, maybe longer if console graphics keep holding back PC options. I have no intentions whatsoever of changing from my 1080 for 2-3 years and I've had it a year already and I'm at 2560x1080.
