hi , just wondered if anybody could give me some guidance or advice . I ve had my current pc for about 2.5 years and i think its still ok but when i read about new hardware it gets me thinking should i up grade. I recently had an idea but im not sure if its worth spending the money on my current set up or waiting and getting a whole new system. My current spec is

i7 920 ...not overclocked
asus p6t se mobo
6 gig ddr3 pc 12800 ram
msi twin frozer gtx 570
cm 620 watt power
850 gig hd

Now what if i reformatted , fitted an ssd drive had my i7 overclocked . Would i get any performance increase for the money it would cost.Like i said im not really a pc wizz so help would be most gratefull

i wouldn't, over clock what you have and wait until something loads faster worth the upgrade comes out, when you need the extra speed, save up your money and replace the whole lot when you see it slow down after the overclock that is, could always add a better video for now to keep up with the latest stuff, but rest is fine for this year easy

yes but not by as much as you think, fitting a newer card would help more. sdd only speeds up boot times, adds nothing to gaming unless game is installed on it, overclocking a i7 that you have also wont add much as most games still dont use i7, but a few do, those that do will see a boost, most won't, adding a better video card to your setup now will give the best boost for the money, well that's my thought's anyway.

that's what i'd do, and a amd card at that, as there cheaper and more value for money than nvidia cards, unless you want to sli the one you have, which again i wouldn't

Thanks for that m8......only problem ive found with the amd cards is, the space in my case, they seem to be a bit longer and im nearly touching the hard drive rack now..

Should be ok. I have had a GTX480 in my Scout and that was a long card. Got a 6950 in it now. The lower hdd cage is only held in with a couple of rivets that are easily drilled out. You can remove it altogether then. I did it to mine purely to let the intake fan do it's job properly.
