Hi

Current PC is

Athlon 2500+ Barton
K7VT4A PRO
Radeon 9800 PRO AGP Gfx
2GB Kingston Ram
160GB IDE boot
120GB IDE data
2x 160 GB SATA 1's

Thinking about upgrading the whole PC and making a new one, but direct X 10 cards almost out and wanted to get an idea from people if it would be better to upgrade the GFX card only and maybe next year get a better PC

Currently play Eveonline, Halo, COD 1-2 and UT

Not want vista yet, maybe in a few years ?

Not sure if best to go with intel or amd and dual core or 64 bit etc, but new PC has to be a quiet one :)
 
I doubt if you'll be able to get an AGP Dx10 graphics card, so you may be forced into a mobo upgrade.
 
Your best bet is to upgrade nothing until next year and get Vista. You say you play eve-online and in 2007 that will be going DX10 which requires Vista. You might as well hang on another month or two and get vista and a DX10 graphics card. No point upgrading your current graphics card in the mean time as its quite well matched to the rest of the system and anything faster would just be held back by that CPU.

Edit: DX10 cards are already out (8800gts and 8800gtx) but more will be appearing early next year from ATI and nVidia will be refreshing the 8800 series. DX10 also requires Vista which will be released January next year.
 
New ATI cards are rumoured for Feb next year iirc, as for Nvidia they have DX10 cards out now, the 8800. See the big banner top right of this page.

DX10 will require a DX10 capable graphics card. Currently the only ones with DX10 capability are the 8800 series from nVidia. Eve-Online will be upgraded to DX10 early next year and a few DX10 games are slated for early to mid 2007. You wont see the majority of DX10 games until mid to late 2007 though.
 
Thing is, wanted to upgrade this Xmas and was planning on a 2nd X1900 (May have read my [many] threads :P) but i didn't know about DX10 'till just now. Starting to throw doubt about getting stuff now...

Early to Mid 2007...Please to God tell me Brother's In Arms 3 is NOT DX10? Please...?
