upgrade or not

I don't think anything much over 3.6 gives a noticeable improvement in games tbh ;o though if you do other things then higher speed of a dual (4.2+) will be useful

hi i'm in a similar boat here/

i have a

3800+x2
dfi ultra -d
1950 pro
1 gig ddr 3200

i#ve been offered

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6600 2.4 GHz
ASROCK 4CoreDual-VSTA Motherboard
Corsair XMS 2 DDR2 Memory, 2 x 1 gig memory modules PC5400
TRUST 570 watt pro PSU ATX

Now i never heard of asrock or trust so i'll be keeping my enermax and getting a more reputable motherboard at some point

so is it worth ditching my 939 stuff the above kit?

ASRock are ASUS's budget line, and are pretty well respected for what they are.

And an E6600 would be a good upgrade from a X2 3800+. But I wouldn't pay much more than £100 for the CPU, motherboard and memory.

ah right cool, i've had an asus in the past and it was solid.

Would that board and ram go together well?

Also I know the c2ds are quite old now have they changed sockets at all?

The board and memory should be fine.

The E6600 may be two years old now, but it's still a damn good processor. It's better than the E21*0 range that are still selling well. And it's still on the same socket 775 as all the C2D's are on.
