Hey, I have had a minor spill and been left with only 3 out of 4 ram slots working, meaning 12gb is now 4gb. I can replace the ram, as 2 died, along with their respective port, and the board for around £150-£200, however I am not sure exactly what ram to go for. However upon looking I realized DDR4 was out, and am not considering upgrading my ram motherboard cpu and gpu, and selling what is still working on my computer, full spec list below.
Asus ATI Radeon HD 6870 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit
Asus P8P67 PRO Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION **
Corsair Hydro H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler
Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1200W Power Supply
Samsung SH-B123LBSBP 12x BluRay ROM DVDRW DL & RAM Lightscribe SATAII Optical Drive
Coolermaster HAF 922 Case - Black
Samsung 2.5-Inch 250 GB 850 EVO Solid State Drive
500GB HDD left over from old build
So I am looking at getting an X99 chipset motherboard, which means upgrading the CPU, but also means I can get DDR4 ram, I think a graphics card upgrade would be appropriate with this as it is already a bit of a bottleneck in the system, up until recent ram issues anyway.
I am hoping my CPU especially but perhaps also the GPU and maybe even slightly faulty motherboard may have same resale, and that everything else would be cool with the new bits?
Looking for opinions on bits to choose should I upgrade, as well as whether to upgrade or repair. I don't see the point in paying £200 to fix, when I am considering an upgrade in the next year or two anyway with or without the spill? especially the graphics card, as this was bought before I decided to do a full motherboard and cpu upgrade last time. Cheers for any help.
