I am thinking of changing my system but wonder if i could salvage my current system, say a new mobo and clock my E6300, 4GB Ram, and a 4870? How far can the E6300 be pushed?

I want to be able to play the latest games

What do you all think is my PSU, CPU worth keeping? Or should i start a fresh?

Oops, forgot to say what my currrent system is....

Intel core 2 duo e6300
conroexfire estata 2 mobo
2gb pc25300 geil memory
ATI x1800 GFX
Seasonic S12-430 PSU

I sold my 2nd system based on a E6300 today! good chip got 3GH out it very stable and coolish (50). I sold the lot and am starting again, i suppose it depends on how much you can sell it for and how much you can put towards your next system...

You should see an easy 3Ghz from your E6300. I think you are doing the right thing in changing the mobo, ram and GPU. It's still a good cpu although as you are changing everything else it may be worthwhile going for a E7200/E8400. I would see what you can get out of your E6300 first.

If you've got a good e6300 i'd keep it. Mine will do 3.8 with enough volts but i settled for 3.6 to balance required volts / temps. Go for m/b, mem and gpu first :).
