Upgrade or start again?

So I am still planning a triple monitor build but I need to wait until I have re-modelled my house to create the space. In the meantime I still want to play games - SWTOR, WOW and hopefully Elite: Dangerous.

What I would like to know is should I upgrade what I have - it is very slow and creaky - or is it just not worth it.

Upgrade suggestions welcome please :-)
Mobo: Gigabyte H55M-UD2H
GFX: Geforce GTS450
Ram: 4GB
HDD: 500GB
Linked to a 23" monitor

Thanks all

What CPU/case/PSU do you have?

Is the monitor 1080P?

What is your budget for upgrades/start again?

Oh yes!

Intel i3 540 @ 3.07ghz
PSU: OCZ 500w

Thanks - Budget for this depends if it is start again or upgrade really - happy to spend £2-300 to keep this going until I can get a new build altogether

Start again.

Or add a few important parts (SSD and a GFX card) and then carry them over to a new CPU/RAM/Board.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Inno3D GeForce GTX 960 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (N960-1DDV-E5CNX) £149.99
1 x Crucial BX100 250GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive (CT250BX100SSD1) £72.98
Total : £232.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Reinstall your OS+games onto this SSD and then wipe the existing HDD and use as storage.

The GTX960 consumes very little power and so will be fine with your PSU I would have thought and also not that long so will fit many cases.

For the time being you could also overclock your cpu if you have a decent cooler. The socket 1156 i3's were excellent clockers and you should pass 4Ghz with ease.
