Upgrade or wait and re-build?

Well I think 4 is enough for almost all things and he could spend the money on a better Mobo thats more futures proof and maybe even a aftermarket cooler.
 
I think you'd be better off saving up for a quality machine.

The best policy would be, as mentioned above, just overclock your cpu and get a lot more performance from it for no additional cost, well a cooler maybe.

Also, as mentioned, there'd be very little advantage in having 8GB ram.
 
Really? You don't think 8GB of RAM would help reduce latency during audio creation? from 2 to 6GB I noticed a massive difference!
I hate having to make choices! Although I can't see any issue in spending a little on a cooler and seeing what I can get out of my old CPU :)
