Upgrade or wait. High spec 4k

Hi all

I'm in need of an upgrade/rebuild for my gaming rig.
Z77 i5-3570k
GTX980ti
32gb 1600MHz

Using an old PG278Q 1440p 144hz and I'm looking to upgrade to a X34P or PG349Q but PC will come before monitor. Specced to max either of those monitors, variety of games but mainly FPS.

Is it worth getting the 2080ti with the next gen romoured or are they not actually likely to come any time soon.

Courtesy of Nvidia graphics card prices are historically bad now and there's no sense to buy extremely overpriced for the start last gen.
For its near £1000 higher price 2080 Ti is only ~35% faster than Radeon 5700 XT.
Even performance of next Xbox GPU might be quite near.
It isn't much behind in raw theoretical power.

And when buying new monitor forget paying for G-Sync tax for getting ball and chain into your leg, so that you get to pay Nvidia's overprices also in future.
FreeSync is only sensible choise in new monitors, unless you just love to support anti-competition and anti-consumer company making even Intel look like model boy scout.
