Hi, My current rig is in my signature, I'm thinking of upgrading by adding the following.

  • INTEL CORE i7 2600K
  • 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Dual Channel Memory Kit Speed 1600Mhz
  • Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P Z68 Motherboard

Then add a SSD later, and use my current drive for storage. Would this seem a good move!

I have been offered the above MB, Memory and Processor new for £370 delivered.

A good upgrade?

price wise yes its worth it, but is your current system failing at anything in particular for you to consider the upgrade ?

As above.

Also, have you got that Q6600 overclocked? Makes a big difference if you do.

All the stuff I mentioned as upgrade is brand new, So I'm thinking its good for £370 Its not second hand. My current system runs fine, My Q6600 has never been over clocked. Every now and then I dabble in gaming, But mainly use PC for work related stuff Web coding, Fireworks, Photoshop etc.

I just like to have nice stuff. And have the upgrade bug!

what do you use your PC for?
you'll be saving around £60/£65 on retail.
And for £370 you can get a brand new setup of:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £173.99
1 x MSI Z68A-G45-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £114.98
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT51264BA160A) £37.99
1 x Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £25.99
Total : £364.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

which if your are a gamer would be more suited to you. do you use any programs which would need hyperthreading? (only real advantage the i7 has over the i5)

The items I mentioned in op is NEW. So I dont need to take the I5 option?

Is does seems a shame that the Quad you have isn't overclocked. I feel many people bought these not realising their true potential.

A few settings to get that to 3.2 or 3.4Ghz and you'd notice a real performance boost for just the outlay of a decent third part cooler. You can then see what the new Ivy Bridge has to offer in the new year..

Hmm This is what I cant work out in my head, I have not overclocked it yet. Should I wait or buy the spec from op.:confused:
