I have been looking at a new case and aircool set-up for my current build:

Ryzen 5900x | Giga X570 GAMING X | 2x16GB Team Group Edition DDR4 | Nvidia RTX 3090 FE | Corsair RM1000x 80 Plus Gold | Lian Li Lancool One Midi | LG 27GL850-B 27" 1440p | Arctic Liquid Freezer II

I also would like to get a second monitor and was looking at either the Alienware AW2725DF or the LG 27GS95QE. I mainly use the PC for gaming, generally strategy and sports sims but also a fair amount of COD.

While looking at the new case, I wondered whether it was worth updating my build now, mainly with a view to a new mobo and a 4090 but given that all games are handled pretty well atm, it seems sensible to wait and just upgrade the case and new monitor.

Would I notice a real difference in gaming if I updated now, or should I wait until next year for the 5000 series cards?

i guess it depends o nthe games you are playing and the resolution you play it at.

Given your current specs, i think you have plenty of performance as it is.. and would wait till the 5xxx cards land to see if there is any real benefit upgrading

Thank you. Yeah there isn't anything I play that struggles right now. I'd like more frames with COD, but that is so poorly optimised and has many other issues anyway.

I'm by far an expert with building a rig, so was kind of thinking I could get the new case and cooling sorted as part of a new custom build. I'm sure I can muddle through with that though as I managed (just about) to put the current build together.
