Hey guys

about 4 years ago, i purchased the Ultima Scimitar watercooled PC from the fine folk at OCUK.

now, i'm mulling over getting back into gaming, and looking around i see that the tech has changed massively, and as such ..i'm a little lost.

will post specifics when i get home, but the CPU is a Core I7 , running at 4Ghz on a GA-Z87X-OC , and an AMD r9 290x

case is a coolermaster cosmos II

is it worth shelling out the £££ on a new build, or do i just run it until it dies?

Cheers

N

dx12 will help a lot for that i7 and 8 threads. Most recent AAA titles will push it though !

what monitor res and hz your running ?

normally would suggest GPU upgrade and wait to see what December brings to the CPU market war

1920x1080
only 60hz at present.

new monitor is on the cards in the near future...

cheers

in theory, could slap in Vega 56 which is killer price to performance ! think comes with 2 free games - though might be 64 . and a monitor

not knowing budget but nice low upgrade, moving to 1440p to offload the CPU and giving it more of a life span

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £471.68 (includes shipping: £11.70)

@Plec @Journey @EsaT @tamzzy @Danny75 might be able to shed some possibilities

if your GPU watercooled ?

Yep GPU is watercooled.

cheers for the insight.

Yeah.

SSD (if you don't have a decent size one already), 1440p monitor and new GPU is where the money would be best spent on. All three can transfer to a new system as well, if needed. Maybe RAM (second-hand) if you only have 8GB or is it 16GB?

And find out which PSU (brand/model) to see if it's decent for a Vega 56.

Currently got 16GB of ram
PSU is a superflower 850W... can't recall model from memory.

wondering how the fluid is looking after 4 years ! whats the longest period without use ?

don't panic, the fluid has been changed a few times :) probably not as often as is optimal though, but the temps are always been fine, and the system stable.

over the course of ownership it's probably not seen a huge amount of use compared to some hardcore gamer rigs.
