Upgrade path for VR

Hello all.
Not a prolific poster but have always found the forums incredibly helpful.

My first build was entirely recommended through people on the forum - HERE - so thought I’d ask for some suggestions again.

It’s been through a fairly steady upgrade cycle since then and is now:

3090 Fe
Intel 9900k
Aorus Z390 pro wifi
Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz C16
ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360
EVGA 750w GQ
Antec P110 case
2 Samsung 860 evo (250+500Gb)
2 NVMe Samsung 970 Evo 1Tb

Use is solely VR. Iracing and flight sims (dcs/msfs). Performance is good but looking to move to a different headset (valve index to a pimax 8kx) so will need a bit more oomph.

Considering a new build for raptor lake. Probably a 13900k. Going to keep the 3090 for now but not ruling out the jump up when the dust settles from todays shenanigans. Suspect the sensible answer is wait another week for reviews. But….

I’m guessing power may be my first issue? If buying new is it just sensible to get a atx 3.0 supply now? Or does it not really matter yet?

Board recommendations? Z690 or z790?

DDR4 or DDR5?

Is hard to come across VR specific recommendations but any info is more than welcome

As VR is mostly graphically intensive, it may be just worth buying the best GPU you can afford.

Not for the CPU and MB upgrade; only for the newer GFX cards and even then it's not a hard pre-req

I'd suggest not upgrading your CPU or platform; I suggest waiting for RDNA 3.0 and then buying something like a RTX 4090 when you have the funds. For 8k dual screen VR you want GPU grunt - as @drakulton mentioned.
