I'd like to upgrade from a B3 q6600/GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 1.0).

The problem is that my current mobo can't really take any better CPU's (supported CPU's)

I'm thinking this Q9450 at 130 is good value and then pickup a second hand mobo for about £50. Totalling £170.

If I sell my current MOBO/CPU for ~£100 then the upgrade will have cost £70.
I know it's a dead socket and all that but it's still a cost effective upgrade. Am I right in thinking the CPU is also more power efficient?

I did some Googeling but I couldn't find anything definitive on unofficial support through a newer BIOS. However the Gigabyte website does list the CPU as 'F14
(Non official support)' but only on rev 3.3 (I have rev 1.0). It looks like the Gigabyte list is probably spot on if they are acknowledging it can be done.

So I really should try a bit harder to get more out of my Q6600, I started a thread asking for here here (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17999613) I'll get back to that then.

Thanks again for your opinions!
