Damn, so you did see that! But yeah, only a full upgrade to pci-express and conroe would be worth it, but costing more than £300.

Obviously its not a bad spec though atm right?

Not if it does all you want it to. Luckily the 6800GT is still a decent card and you have enough RAM to run most games. CPU is less important than RAM when it comes to FEAR, Oblivion etc.

updated the list.

'Tis fine although games that are yet to come out will probably struggle. I reckon the games that are out now are the last games you'll really get playable framerates at 1280x1024 and above.

Yeah that's true, but unless he upgrades to PCI-E he wont get anything better than the card he has.

You could go for something like this, taking advantage of the price drops on the X2s and keep your existing Ram and graphics card.

MB-002-AK Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-002-AK)
£36.95 £36.95
CP-174-AM AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-174-AM)
£199.95 £199.95
FG-000-AR Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)
£14.50 £14.50
Subtotal £251.40
VAT £44.00
Total £295.40

Or go for this which includes a new graphics card and see how far you can clock the CPU. Conroe would be better probably but you would need new CPU, Ram, motherboard and graphics card and you can't improve that much on what you have given your budget.

MB-002-AK Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-002-AK)

GX-044-CO Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
£136.95 £136.95
CP-134-AM AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3800BVBOX) (CP-134-AM)
£99.95 £99.95
Subtotal £273.85
VAT £47.93
Total £321.78
