looking to upgrade over xmas as the other half has agreed to buy a new motherboard and cpu for me.

my current spec:

NZXT PHANTOM ENTHUSIAST FULL TOWER CASE
asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3
AMD PHANOM 2 1090T 3.2GHZ OVERCLOCKED TO 3.7GHZ
H.I.S ICEQ 3GB GRAPHICS CARD
2 X CRUCIAL MX100 512GB SSD
2X 1 TERRABITE HDD
******** 750 psu
BLURAY DISC DRIVE

im going to be keeping the hdd, ssd, bluray drive, psu and graphics card and buying:

Asus Crosshair V Formula Z AMD 990FX
AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 Black Edition 4.70GHz
2 x Avexir Core Red Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C11 2133MHz

+

ill be watercooling this but unsure of which parts ill be getting yet

does anyone see any problems with what i plan on getting?

You would be better off going with intel. First reason is that it is faster then the AMD :http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1260?vs=1289
Secondly it is cheaper then the AMD.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£35 Saving** £367.98
1 x Kingston HyperX 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black/Red (HX21C11BRK2/16-OC) £137.99
Total : £515.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

This would be a great setup. The 4790k beats the AMD when it is not overclocked. If you are planning to watercool then you should get a high overclock beating the AMD. The motherboard that I have selected has a crazy warranty :http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631511

thanks for the replies

Welcome to the fourms.

What's your budget for the upgraded components? What is the use of the PC? eg. gaming, office type work, video

not really got a budget, its more a case of the more it costs the longer it will take. gaming BF4,dayz sa, grid 2 , crisis...

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Have a look at the Ocuk bundles, one below includes a excellent PSU and the 4970k which is better in all aspects than the AMD and should offer a future upgrade path:

as above. the reason for going with the amd is i have no idea how to overclock. ive only used a program that came with the motherboard

I think even on stock clocks the Intel beats the AMD in a few benchmarks and pulls a lot from the wall as well.

With the Intel is just the case of increasing the multiplier and slight voltage off set in the BIOS, there are plenty of tutorials on the web :D

Intel looks to be the way to go, im really after a asus r.o.g motherboard as it goes with the red and black theme im doing.lol. not a major thing just means throwing more money at it than i wanted to.
