Currently running a Conroe Core2 2.66 @ 2.8, with 4Gb DDR3 and a 8800GTX, running Win7 64Bit.

It's getting a bit slow gaming wise (esp as I've got a 24" 19x12 Dell to drive) and I was wondering is there an single component upgrade that would make a difference? Or do I just need to save a get a new system?

That E6700 should hit at least 3.4-3.6Ghz in a half decent motherboard.

Option 1. Source a second hand Q6600 (G0 stepping) for around £50-60 and get it clocked to 3ghz+.

Option 2. Clock the nuts off your E6700 and buy a new graphics card.

Option 3. Save up for a new rig.

EDIT: As above - good advice.

What games are you playing?

Depending on the games you play you could slot in a newer gfx card and gain a significant boost.

However, for approx £400 (SB, MB, memory and gfx card) you could have a SB setup running at ~4.5Ghz and powering its way through every games with ease.

Depends on need and finances - but you would be very happy with a SB setup.
