hi guys

my pc is not as fast as it shoud be running 3d programs music and things slows it down a lot.

its got a 2ghz cpu and 2gb of ram so not really a slow pc i think
the problem is with the mobo as its a cheap one that was fitted
when my ns7 mobo dident work now i am looking to upgrade if you
think it will help i have a agp gfx card ddr 400 ram and socet a cpu
so i need a mobo to work with that any idears??

thanks.

I think you need to re-think what the problem is here, what exactly are the issues your encountering?

The difference between even the best and worst performing motherboards is a few percent at most, your not gonna find a sudden improvement.

If your talking about rendering and playing multiple tracks, that kind of thing, then perhaps a dual core X2/Core 2 Duo would be the best upgrade for you, there are Core 2 Duo mobos that would let you use your current RAM or an X2 on socket 939.

If it is graphics wise, like in games, then both your processor and graphics card are a little long in the tooth and you'd need to look at a complete overhaul.

your comp might have a lot of spyware on it or a virus perhaps? you're build is similar to my old rig what games are you trying to play?

btw i had the same processor its fsb only goes to 333fsb so your ram will be limited to that as well.

thanks i was thinking about a cpu upgrade if is not down to the mobo

i am after something a lot fast as its starting to do my head in when it slows down i dont really know what to go for as i will need a new mobo and cpu any idears and if my ram is limited i would want something that will let me use all 2gb of it

thanks

I am sorry to tell you this but your pc is going to be slower than more or less anything on the market now. Socket A Semprons never were as good as the old Athlon XP series and the 9800 gfx card is also quite old now and will take a beating from any recent card. If your pc is too slow now to do what you want with it then your only choice is to save up for a new pc. If you want to multi task and do more than one thing at a time on it then you will need a dual core based rig and that means Conroe as nothing can touch it for performance.

As a side note, if this is a sudden slowdown have you scanned for viruses and spyware at all as they can slow your pc down significantly?

I personally think its your cpu, a sempron isnt made for 3d programs only for browsing, emailing, etc...(home use), cheapest solution is to get an athlon instead but if you wnat a proper upgrade you need an athlon64 or a intel core2duo...
The gfx card may be old but isnt that bad, a 9800 can still play most modern games on medium settings...
Cheapest upgrade is a better cpu for socket A, a cheap solution is s939 athlon64 with agp8x as you can keep your ram and gfx card then ( just dont get a sempron if you dont want a slow pc) , and best upgrade is to go dual core with intel.

well i am looking 2 make the move from a type mobo and cpu by the looks of things so i will need a new cpu i am looking at a intel 3.0ghz min and a new mobo for that is there one that i can use my curent ram and gfx card on?

well the asrock dual-vsta board would probly let you use your graphics card and you'r memory. costs about 44 pounds and a oem 3700+ a64 can be had for about 50 pounds then the artic cooling freezer pro 64 16 pounds.

for just over 100 pounds you could have a the above and the performance increase should be decent :)
