Hi all, I finally got the below items which arrived today. I want to start the upgrade but just wanted to check the best method for doing this?

1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£15 Saving + Gigabyte Free Upgrade + £30 Intel Cashback ** £397.98
1 x Avexir Golden Blitz 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U24001008G-2BZ1SE) £139.99

Previously I have just done a rebuild of my OS drive and re-installed everything, but I was wondering if I uninstalled all the mobo drivers and then did the swap would it work? The Gfx card is the same for the drivers will still be valid along with the Nvidia and AMD chipset and the SSD will be set up on the PCI through the AHCI setting in BIOS (As the IBIS has its on 20Gb card).

Am I going to get BSOD issues because of the change in mobo and if I do shall I just go for the re-install from scratch?

Advice welcome.

You may get a BSOD when windows tries to start.

Because, the SATA controller default is set to AHCI in the BIOS, your old board might be IDE default, so if you do get no where, change the setting in the BIOS.

I would always do a fresh install, particularly as your changing platform. Back up all your essential stuff. A fresh install will save any hassles that could crop up otherwise.

Your SSD may not even work at all as it is an early Sandforce controller drive from checking the specs. These have issues with Z87+97 boards.

I hope it will still work, after all Stulid you recommended the Gigabyte board for me. :(

Fortunately I keep all data on a separate SATA drive and that in turn is backed up to another SATA drive so my data is always separate. So it will just be re-installing all my apps onto a clean OS and re-install all my games through Steam.

I'll start the re-install and that way I will see if the SSD will work with the Z97 chipset

I hope it works, only one way to find out.

Also make sure the board has a recent BIOS on it. early ones set the Vcore a bit too high.
