hi all ive been asked by a m8 of mine to upgrade his

Dell Inspiron 530 VILV

the main Q is has any one else ever put an Evga nvidia 260 GPU
in this P.C?.

Were upgradeing the PSU as the one in uit wont do so thats not an issue unless the Corsair 650W none modular wont fit/do etc.

thanks in advance.

Dell PSU can be a pain in the behind to deal with. A lot of the time the mobos have a different ATX power connectors, you might want to check that! Think you can get converters on tinterweb.

Providing that the mobo has a PCIe x16 connector I cant see how that GFX would be a problem.

Again you may also have problems physically the psu in the case, as sometimes the screw holes are different on the dell cases, or the power jack on a standard atx psu is in the way of some of the sheet metal, but you can cut the metal out the way.

If the case looks like this:

Sadly these are BTX motherboards/case and the motherboard mounts on the opposite side of case from normal, meaning that the graphics card would have to be fitted with the fan facing upwards which isn't possible as there isn't a spare pci bay above it (from my experience anyway.)

But most of the 530 series seem to be in this case:

Which I think the card may fit and there would be no problem fitting the psu either, but I think you may need to move the harddisk to fit it.

yep its the last one so it aint BTX.
ive seen photos of the power connection looks std to me.

yeah he did say it would get close to the HD so may have to move it.
is there any one on this forum whos actualy upgraded this P.C? if so would like to hear from you.

cheers

Your best bet is probably just to get the exact length of the card and measure it, I'm pretty sure I fitted a standard atx psu into one of these cases so that won't be a problem but the case itself is very crowded, I've worked on a lot of them.

Also the power connectors for the 280 are on the side of the card which means it will probably just fit and no more.

thanks bobby bobby bobby bobby :).

ok will let him know that its just a case of getting card dimensions and seeing tbh i think he said hes done that it was tight but should just fit .

cheers all.

p.s hi brian :D u should register to this forum m8 great community......(ok did it where is me free pc stuff OCUK :))

well we got the bits from ocuk great service as norm.

when it came to fitting the bits in the case damn its tight in there hehe.

had to modify the sata cables to get them to fit under the huge graphic card fan casing
mod the location of the hard drives to miss graphic card

and so on and so on hehe.

we did a windows speed test in vista the card came out at 5.9 does this sound right for this card?.

cheers all.
