So I donated an old system to a friend which was a Intel Q6600 on a Asus P5N-E SLI. It was running really well for a while but now it seems to be crashing due to high temps.
In Windows, just after a boot, the 4 cores seems to be between 48C and 53C. And if he runs anything CPU hungry the temps quickly climb to around 60C and the system locks up.
I have bought some new thermal paste which I was going to apply but i was thinking that maybe a better cooler might be better. I was looking a:
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £24.01
(includes shipping: £6.02)
The Q6600 is quite a hot chip and has 105 TDP. The above cooler has 130 TDP.
Does anyone have any thoughts/advice? If the CPU is on the way out, what are my options to replace it with?
Thanks
