Hello,

Do we have any Microsoft Flight Simulator users on here? I'm thinking about upgrading my current setup over to AM5 and wondering If it would be worth doing. I currently have the following specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
  • 32GB DDR4
  • RTX3080 (10GB Ram)
  • Running 1440p

I'm aware Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of those games that does like the cache that the X3D CPUs come with - I was originally thinking about swapping the CPU over to 5800x3d but not sure if there would be that much improvement over the 5900X and since AM4 is now end of support with AM5 being out I'm not sure if it would be really worth doing in the long run. Has anyone done a similar upgrade and noticed any performance bumps?

The second option was to look at building a new rig with a 7800X3D when they come out with necessary hardware to go with it (motherboard, ram) - It would be the more expensive approach to this.

In this review they include the numbers for Flight Simulator 2021 and this is what they say:

The 7950X3D’s performance in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2021 is almost unbelievable — the X3D chip is 53% faster than its vanilla counterpart, the 7950X, and 43% faster than the 13900K at stock settings. Again, the jump in performance over the standard model is very similar to the 5800X vs 5800X3D, with the latter having a 49% uplift. This shows that AMD has managed to wring out similar gains from a dual-CCD chip as it did with the single-CCD 5800X/3D.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2021 obviously benefits tremendously from L3 cache, but that doesn't represent the 7950X3D's performance in all titles. This illustrates how outliers can make the 7950X3D seem more impressive in cumulative measurements, so be sure to examine performance in individual games.

The benchmark includes a 5800X and 5950X, for comparison.

But, this is at 1080p (Ultra), though 2560x1400 (Ultra) also shows big gains with a 4090.
