For the past couple of upgrades from AMD to another AMD I've not reinstalled Windows and just let Windows load any new drivers. This time I'm now on Vista and going from AMD (64 x2) to Intel (Quad processor). Will I be able to get away without reloading Vista and just let it sort itself out when it find the new components on first boot?

Thanks,

Simon

Going from AMD to intel will mean changing the motherboard which will almost certainly mean a windows reinstall.

I'd be VERY surprised if you didn't need a re-install.

u can try setting all the stuff like pci bridges and hard drive controllers to default ones but i doubt itll work, ud be better off just reformatting or at the least a repair install. also youll need to phone microsoft to re-activate. on similar chipsets like updating a p965 to a p35 its less risky but is always best to just reformat just to be safe.

It'd be safer and cleaner to just start from fresh with the new CPU/motherboard, at least then you'll be able to see a proper performance difference.
