Hi

I'm thinking about getting the following system:

"Ultima OC 8800GTX" Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz @ X6950+ 3.30GHz+ Quad Core SILENT DDR2 System

but have a couple of questions as I haven't been keeping up with the latest developments.

1) any reason to hold off buying ..are there any new (better) CPUs coiming out in the next couple of months?

2) Is this set up good enough to run my Dell 24" monitor for gaming? My current card can't cope (9800 pro) in fact nothing happens!!!

Thanks
S

  1. Yes, the 45 nm CPUs are coming out from Intel and AMD's new line, the Penmon, is due shortly. The GTX is also getting replaced with a higher performing, lower power model in about the same timeframe. Watch the market as most of this stuff will be out by early January.
  2. Yes, it's the best GPU on the market currently. You should be able to play nearly every game at max or near-max settings at that resolution.

Clock for clock the Q6600 is not as fast as the new 45nm Penryn which will come out in January but the Q6600 is a very good chip at a great price. I personally would find the 8800GTX a waste of money. Rather get a 8800 GT or wait for the new 8800 GTS (According to rumors due to launch in begin December)
