Hi guys,

I am thinking about a motherboard bundle upgrade from OCUK to replace my current P4 3.2 etc.

Thinking of this upgrade
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-041-OK&groupid=701&catid=339&subcat=

Question is, I have a Tagan TG480-U01 480W ATX2.0 SLi Compliant Silent PSU bought from overclockers about 18 months ago.

I also have an 8800GT, 2X DVD IDE drives and 2X SATA drives and 2X 80mm case fans. I have no desire to upgrade to SLi at present. Do you think my PSU will handle this upgrade? if not how big would I need to go?

Any help or comments appreciated.

Thanks

Im a bit new to this.. why would that be please? power drain or somethin else? I bought this cos OCUK says that it all goes together well..

Nothing to do with power drain, it is just that PC8500 is slightly overkill unless you are going for a pretty serious overclock. Or to put it another way with that CPU and PC6400 you could potentially get an overclock to 3.6ghz still running the Ram at stock speeds (CPU multiplier of 9x and the Ram actual speed of 400mhz), of course that would depend on the motherboard, having a good chip and the cooling but it might demonstrate that PC8500 probably isn't needed here.

//edit and your PSU should be absolutely fine as mp260767 says.

Thanks very much guys.. wasnt really looking to overclock.. but you never know.. :)
Can I just ask you guys than what bundle you would suggest with a Quad core for overclocking and for keeping standard? didnt really want to go over 350.00 really
Some kits say Core 2 Quad pro and some just say Q6600 Quad ... are these any different? and what are the OCUK motherboards like?

Exactly the same model of CPU (all G0 SLACRs), no idea why they are labelled differently, I'd assume they just copied and pasted from different descriptions.

Here you go, marginally cheaper but with 4gb of Ram instead. If you wanted you could fit a good CPU cooler into the budget as well - something like a Tuniq Tower or Noctua NH-U12P would do nicely.
