Hey,

I see a very similar thread on first page but my requirements are not quite the same so i wont hijack...

I play a lot of games, COH, COD, STO, BF2 etc, and all runs fine on med settings. Never had any issues.

I have 4gb ram, AMD x2 245 processor 2.9ghz, 64bit windows 7

With BF3 and the next COD on the way, i want to upgrade the card to ensure i can continue to play the latest games in a medium quality smoothly.

Was just going to get the 6670 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-258-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1983) but it may not be fit for purpose? any advice? I can spend a bit more if need be.

Kind regards,
Achilles

I don't think you'll see any real improvement with a 6670 over the 4850. I would say bare minimum to see an improvement would be a 6770.

Ideally to cover smooth playing on medium you would be looking more like a GTX 460 or HD 6850/70.

What resolution do you usually play games in?

6670 would probably be equal to or slower than the 4850. I think the 6670 is just a re-release of the 5670.

A 5850 or 6950 depending on what you can spend would be a very nice upgrade. However, I'd overclock that processor or upgrade to a Quad Core. The Athlon II X4's or even Phenom II X4's can be had pretty cheap in the Members Market.

Here comes the trouble, upgrading gfx suddenly becomes a system upgrade which i want to put off for a few more months (then do it properly). I bought the PC as a built job so wouldnt know what CPU i could put in mobo or anything.

Your CPU will bottleneck it a lot. Especially with a game like BF3 which will take advantage of 4 or more cores.

I guess you could get it now, use it and then keep using it when you upgrade your whole system. That card should last a good while.
