So i'm looking to upgrade my gaming pc but its been a while since i researched anything.
i'm looking to play gray zone amongst others, EAFC 24, fortnite, cod etc. i have also dabbled with sim racing, iracing, assetto.
My current set up is getting a bit dated:
Fractal design meshify c tower
b450m mortar max board
Ryzen 5 3600
2 x 8 GB DDR4 3200 (1600Mhz) corsair vengeance
Nvidia gtx 1660 super

ideally i would like to future proof for the next 2-3 years with a budget of £700 - £1000

I could recoup some costs by selling the replaced parts.

I'm very out of touch as ive not really kept up with things since i did this build 3 years ago.

All help and suggestions would be greatly received.

Sorry to drag this one up again but a divorce got in the way I still have the existing set up. But spending a lot more time at my PC again.
Do the above recommendations still stand or is there better out there for the money?
1440p would be preferred now.

So i'm revisiting this again.
I'm ready to upgrade as my pc just isnt handling the games i play very well now, mainly Delta Force.
I would prefer to upgrade with plug and play on AM4 just for ease but i am open to an AM5 build and keeping what i can, like just the PSU?
I see ram is mega bucks now!

Budget is £1k but not to strict.

Current set up reminder:
Fractal design meshify c tower (does this limit my gpu size?
b450m mortar max board
Ryzen 5 3600
2 x 8 GB DDR4 3200 (1600Mhz) corsair vengeance
Nvidia gtx 1660 super

Any help would be greatly appreciated

so i have put together an am5 build, i will keep my psu, m.2, ssd & cpu cooler.
I'm thinking i can sell my graphics card and ram and get a couple of hundred back if i go this route:
My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,403.82 (includes delivery: £7.99)

or upgrade my current set up with a cpu, ram and gpu more of a budget build to tide me over.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £844.91 (includes delivery: £7.99)

will there be masses of difference in performance? between the am4 and am5 for fps gaming? for the sake of the more expensive am5 build i do not mind upping the budget by a few hundred more for a performance per £ / more future proof build.

anything you would add or change to either? i'm going on the basis i will not find an am4 x3d.

so if i go am5, with a 5070 or 9070, will i need a psu upgrade? i'm hoping the 3 fan gpus will fit in the meshify c? ai says i have 315mm of room with front fans, the one in the cart is 306mm so it will be tight. I'll be playing at 1440p, so i'm thinking this should last me a good while.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,776.82 (includes delivery: £7.99)

so i'll be at £850 to stay am4 or £1800 for am5

i currently get around 60fps, but with some occasional stuttering and lag on lowish settings.

If i can get 100+ fps on higher settings at 1440p with the am4 upgrades i'm tempted to save £1k and look at am5/6 in a few years. such decisions :D

preferably 1440p on both am4 or am5, but if it will be smoother gameplay at 1080p id be happy at 1080p with higher frames.

am4 i would be looking at 5060ti/9060xt 16gb with a 5800x (edit) or i see a 5070 non ti dual fan would be a choice, apologies, i disregarded this earlier due to 12gb over the 16gb of the 5060ti, but i dont think that should be an issue.
the 60 frames reference above is currently playing at 1440p

Thanks both! your advice is much appreciated.

procrastinator sums me up perfectly lol. and its has cost me now with these silly prices :D

i know prices have risen but when you see it typed out like that it does make me feel a bit ill

and with my luck i would pull the trigger now and everything will then drop and i could have built a much better rig for the £'s

Yeah I have 4 slots but always thought that was a bad idea? I could see if I can match up another 2x8..

I could go for the 5070 or 9070 regardless. I do t really mind picking up a 5800x as they are not super expensive but do also need to factor in extra cooling. Or I would go 5700x but they are also hard to get hold of. Unless of course I find a legit x3d, yeah right lol.

But the closer I get to £1k in upgrades I think what's the harm in going am5 and full beast mode. With a ti or xt and proper x3d.

i also agree :D but......... ive opened a bottle of red, made an offer on auction on matching 2x8 sticks (£50). found a 9070 that fits (£550)and a 5800x (£170) plus cooler (£35.00)

So im around £840 deep including delivery and the wine. i'm gonna treat myself to a new keyboard as well and that should keep me going for a bit.

I have a xbox series x to get rid of as well so that will offset the extra for the cpu and keyboard.

Dont all sigh at once :D :D :D

thanks all for the help

so the 4x8gb ram was playing on my mind a little, so i have also ordered 2x16gb 3600 c16. oh and a new 2tb m.2 to replace the SSD i was just using for windows. so when it all arrives i'll do a fresh install and transfer my main games onto the new main drive, i have a slower m.2 already which i'll use for general storage.

I'll just sell the 4x8gb with my 1660 super and old cpu.

The gpu and cpu have arrived.

Cant wait to get it all set up now. Hopefully i will have time next week as the rest starts to arrive.

Hi all, thanks for your help on this one, everything has arrived and been swapped over, all went smoothly apart from not seating my ram correctly but that was soon sorted with a quick check over everything.

The improvement is night and day.

Ive gone from 60 frames at 1440p to well over 200 frames at 1440p on much higher settings.

Im very happy and this should keep me going for the next few years.
