As it's coming up to the time when we celebrate the birth of father Christmas...…
would you upgrade from an oculus rift to an S or a quest?

TLDR if u like VR u will probably end up getting both.
the Rift S is a good all-rounder and good value when u put on some KSC75 headphones + mamut grip controllers.
The quest is something magical as without the wire it makes crap VR games really enjoyable. however library is limited.

however if funds are limited, just wait till december to buy once us VR enthusiasts have checked out how good the Quest link is.

Thanks aoaaron, I read it all and it was quite informative. As I only use the rift for space/flight sims (haven't even looked at the free games that came with it) the library limitation would not even be a thing for the quest.
I just suppose the choice thing is dependant on usage...… and the amount of porn you watch.

Does the game run through rift home or via steam?

If through rift home it should work once the link cable arrives.

If through steam, should also work via link, but you should also be able to get this working now through the sideloaded version of virtual desktop - but this would be via streaming so the quality might not be great.

If it's a standalone program not sure.

It's a standalone program (app) that you have to plonk in the oculus software folder, so yeah, I'm guessing it may have to be sideloaded but even then I don't know if it would work or not.
It would be nice to find out so I can let the EL3D forum members know.

Just tried to get Eagle Lander working in VR through virtual desktop on my Quest but had no luck.

Do you need VorpX for this when using the rift - I've not got a copy of VorpX, so if needed that might be where I'm falling down.

SteamVR works really well through Virtual Desktop.

Thanks for having a look at it.

No, you don't need vorpx to run it on the rift. you just have to place the folder in this location on the PC

C:\Program Files\Oculus\Software\Software

I don't know where you'd have to put the files to get them working on the quest.

I reckon there's a good chance it'll work with the link cable......if you can sit tight I'll be the guinea pig for this!

On another note.....200 posts woohoo (only another 40 years to go till members market access at this rate lol).

Thanks again, sure I can wait as I'm having such a blast with it on the Rift. The dev mentioned recently that he's getting some updated models for the next release, so I'll keep you posted.

Congrats on the 200 posts btw
